Zoom Online Classroom
Since its founding in 2011, Zoom.us ("The Cloud Meeting Company") has grown into a major web-conferencing service provider that "unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, and group messaging into one easy-to-use platform" providing "the best video, audio, and screen-sharing experience" for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Kindle devices.
Great Discourses uses the Zoom platform to host live, interactive online class sessions that connect great people around the world with great books, great ideas and each other in ways that help particpants unlock the mysteries of Western and World classics — and of our own lives.
Accessing a Zoom Online Classroom
Every Zoom online classroom (or "meeting") has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit "Meeting ID" number. You can join the classroom in one of three ways:
- Click on the URL link of the meeting that has the Meeting ID embedded in it (e.g.: https://zoom.us/j/1234567890)
- Go to zoom.us/join and enter the Meeting ID in the field provided.
After doing this, the Zoom software will be activated (after downloading and installing itself if it is not already on your computer or device). You can also:
- Dial in to one of the Zoom telephone numbers and enter the Meeting ID to join the meeting as a teleconference (telephone charges may apply).
No Zoom Account Required
Although you can set up a free Zoom account if you wish, you do not need to do so if you are only using Zoom to access your Great Discourses discussion course.
